WHY DON'T Y'ALL JUST DO ALL THE WORK FOR US

Roadrunner’s SignMeTo site is pretty cool, and the userbase is expanding. Pretty slick how when presented as a public social networking activity, the A&R process suddenly becomes much easier for the label. Anyway, I’ve been getting a bunch of free exposure without signing anything, thanks to this website— here is a mini feature on Roadrunner dot com, which basically just announces MH presence on the free “Best Of SMT” sampler.

MOST EXTREME SICK MUSE - VOTE NOW!

Metric remix contest I entered awhile back, voting is going on now until the 23rd! All you need is a valid email address (or two??) and you are so in. As of this writing, my track is #4 out of 145- which is pretty good, but I dare say I think we can do better!!!!!!!

THE NASHVILLE CHAPTER IS COMPLETE

Yes, it’s true. Moving to Denver, Colorado at the end of the week. I feel like I’ve done all I can do here in Nashville and it’s time for a change of scenery, change of pace, and time to try something different. I feel like for the last few months here I’ve simply been spinning my wheels, not really making any significant progress on anything and overall just wholly uninspired to do so. My living situation since the flood back in May has been most cost-efficient, but it has taken its’ toll on my psyche, to the point that I need to extract myself from my surroundings and begin anew elsewhere.

As I have already demonstrated several times in the past, I am entirely incapable of doing a good job at managing this band, so Will took the initiative to book the final Nashville show. I did a poor job at promoting it, because I made no effort to do so and also because I couldn’t see the point. So poor in fact, that this is the only post mentioning the final Nashville show, and the show already happened. Nevertheless, there were a good bit of people there at the beginning of the night because of the art show that was taking place beforehand.

If anyone wonders what happens when you put an MTSU graduate behind the soundboard and fail to sound check before starting your set, you will end up disappointed if you are optimistic enough to believe your night will go smoothly. I opened the show up with a Rainbowdragoneyes set, which could very well have been the worst set I’ve ever done. One of the DI boxes was out of phase, so the mix coming through the PA was abysmal. Add that to your standard “too-hip-to-give-a-shit” attitude your average Nashville crowd demonstrates at any show, and it was just plain awkward. I didn’t fully realize how bad the mix was until the 3rd song, when I just stopped in the middle of it and told everyone to go home. It seems a few of them took my advice. Some difficult 6 minutes in silence later, I had my laptop plugged directly into the mixer at the back of the room, sang Rape Castle and called it a night.

Next up was Stuck Lucky, a band for whom I play drums. Thoroughly uninterested in continuing to pretend like I was going to have a good time after completely blowing it, we charged through the set anyway. And, it wasn’t so bad. I was already exhausted and wanted to go home but was glad I was using the house kit as opposed to my own, one less thing to worry about dealing with. The crowd was actually pretty great, quite a few people came just for the Luckys and demonstrated their knowledge of circle-pitting quite satisfactorily.

Now onto my 3rd and final set for the evening, and Magic Hammer’s final Nashville performance. The crowd had thinned to include my friends and a few handfuls of others, maybe only a few heads I haven’t seen at shows before. Wasn’t bad, wasn’t good, wasn’t even feeling it until the last song. The PA was too quiet, could barely hear anything over the guitars. Minimal interaction during the performance, the free beer at this point was long gone, I felt like making it a quick set so everyone (me) could go home.

All in all, not exactly the most epic way to go out, and needless to say I never thought it was going to be, not in this town. I did what I needed to do and now I’m ready to move on to something else. Wish me luck, I guess.

• For the rest of the week, orders from the Rage Not Rave Webshoppe and Magic Hammer Bandcamp count as double-supporting the cause, because I need all the dollars I can get my grubby hands on to help me during the move. It’s a long drive and it’s a scary world out there, so if you don’t have any of this stuff you should get it like now.

• • If you live in Denver and you want to be in this band, make sure you fit at least some of the criteria and get in touch!!!
